Top 5 CCG Cards

Passed along by Mr Kallenbach--I'm going for "game-ending coolness" factor in this list because victory through some kind of geek factor is always the best way to win:

5. Jack Wilgress - WARS TCG
I have yet to hear that anyone pulled off this gametext.

4. The Balrog - The Lord of the Rings TCG
Any version of this minion hitting the table means really...bad...things...

3. Stone Cold Stunner - WWE RAW Deal
No other game has such a "FU" way of finishing off an opponent, especially an opponent with some cheese deck you really REALLY hate.

2. There Can Be Only One - Highlander CCG
The only way to play a head shot.

1. Attack Run - Star Wars CCG
The coolest storyline card ever PERIOD

Honourable Mentions (for various reasons): Choose Keyword (only because Apples to Apples isn't technically a CCG, and Oh the choices our gaming group came up with...); Chain Reaction Richochet (one of two reasons I played the Star Trek CCG, the second being the card that attacked Earth so I could turn my deck into "Star Wars"); Our Foes Are Weak (from LOTR--one of the best pictures on a card I ever saw and caused me to play a minion culture I otherwise don't like); Blaster Deflection (I only pulled that off once--the neatest of the Jedi powers in the CCG)

Thinking... LONGING for the Return of the Star Wars CCG

As a Star Wars fan, I have only been hurt by those in charge at Lucas Licensing once: when they quashed the beloved Star Wars CCG. And worse, in my opinion, it's an unfair black spot on Mr. Lucas himself since every decion made by his company ultimately reflects on him whether he is fully knowledgable of that decision or not.

There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about Decipher's Star Wars card game. It's five years later and the scar is still there. And not just me, but the thousands all over the world that still talk about the game everyday and (more importantly) still play what is considered by many in the industry to be the greatest non-Magic card game ever to be printed. The game impacted people's lives on so many levels that it was nearly reaching a pop-culture status when the printers went silent. And why not? The Star Wars CCG was a perfect blend of Star Wars, gaming, and community. I remember the Shawn Valdez tournament that raised money for cancer research, and the immensely popular can drive tournaments that were held during Christmas. No other game has ever surpassed the Star Wars CCG in its connection to people.

Betashyyykshire at Sunrise

Decipher's Star Wars Customizable Card Game (SWCCG) is responsible for many joys, industry contacts, and personal acquaintences in my life. In this entry of my Star Wars blog at starwars.com, I discuss how the SWCCG (and card gaming in general) also represent the kind of romantic confrontation long gone the way of the swords and chivalric quests. Once a year, we in Connecticut celebrate this modern day representation of the "old ways" through a gaming convention called Betashyyykshire. If Star Wars, The Lord of the Rings, and Star Trek are three of your favorite worlds to escape to, then we urge you to join us for that weekend.
